In a major relief for the Unnao rape survivor, the Supreme Court has stayed the Delhi High Court order that suspended the sentence and granted bail to former UP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. A three-judge bench led by the Chief Justice of India said serious questions of law arise, particularly on whether an MLA qualifies as a public servant under the POCSO Act. The CBI termed the case horrific, involving the rape of a minor, and warned that diluting POCSO protections could set a dangerous precedent.
