Debut of the Day: The Batmobile first appeared outside of DC comic books 80 years ago in Lambert Hillyer’s 15 chapter black and white serial film “Batman” released by Columbia Pictures in 1943. After “the Bat-Man”’s 1939 debut in ‘Detective Comics’, the character’s popularity continued to rise in National Allied Publications (today’s DC), receiving his own self titled book a year later in April 1940.
