No matter how big the log is, this is how I start to mill my logs with my Granberg Alaskan mills. Put a ladder on top of the log, fasten it with 3 inch screws, set the mill to cut at 4.5 inches (below the ladder and the screws), then go! Once the top of the log is off, you can set the mill to your desired thickness and make slabs!!
