Democratic Gov. Janet Mills has challenged immigration officials to provide judicial warrants, real-time arrest numbers and basic information about who is being detained in Maine. Mills also called on her Republican rival, Sen. Susan Collins, to act after the House’s GOP majority defeated efforts by Democrats to curtail ICE funding.
Residents have stepped in to bring their children to school, run errands, deliver meals, and are even patrolling neighborhoods in search of immigration agents.
The demonstration came at the end of a week in which federal immigration officials said over 100 people had been detained in Maine.
