But now Nintendo’s latest earnings report is here to offer some hard numbers on how the Mario maker’s current next-gen platform shift is going. TL;DR: Incredibly strongly, though it’s still searching for that runaway hit no one can shut up about.
Nintendo has shared quite a few successes for its Q3 2026 fiscal quarter. While some may have predicted success for Kirby Air Riders, the extent of its success may still leave more than a few people surprised. Nintendo reported that the Kirby racing game has sold 1.76 million units globally since its late November launch date.
Despite launching in the middle of the year, the Switch 2 saw an incredible start to its lifecycle with it already surpassing 17 million unit sales in its first seven months in the wild. In fact, data shows that the Switch 2 is already selling faster than the original Nintendo Switch during the same time period.

The original Nintendo Switch has surpassed the DS in sales, officially reaching a milestone as Nintendo's best-selling video game system of all time. With 155.37 million units sold as of the last week of December 2025, the Switch only trails Sony's PlayStation 2 for the all-time record.

The original Switch just became Nintendo’s best-selling console ever with 155.37 million units as of December 31, 2025, overtaking the DS which sold 154.02 million units from 2004-2011. It was part of a holiday surge that saw the company move 7.
However, Dispatch went up for preorder on Switch and Switch 2 in the middle of December, and AdHoc never noted that the game would be censored. There still hasn't been any social media posts by the developer about the censorship issue on Nintendo's platforms.
The original Switch is now officially Nintendo's best-selling hardware ever, while Switch 2 has already eclipsed the sales of the company's disastrous Wii U in just nine months.
