U.S. President Donald Trump said the levies scheduled to begin Feb. 1 were unnecessary after reaching a framework deal with NATO regarding Greenland.

Trump said Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland will have a 10% tariff on all goods.

President Trump said he will impose a new 10% tariff on Denmark and seven countries until "a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland."

After the latest bout of trade turmoil with the United States, European leaders are looking for ways to project strength to the Trump administration, which considers them weak.
