As extreme cold weather grips large sections of the United States, people still need to work and live their lives. CNN wellness expert Dr. Leana Wen has guidance.
The weather service said people should limit their time outside, dress in loose layers, and cover all exposed skin. Additionally, people should eat hot food and drink warm drinks, but should avoid caffeine and alcohol. During extreme cold, wear multiple layers, boots, gloves, a warm hat and a face covering.
If you’re venturing outdoors, dressing properly is key. “Dressing in layers, wearing loose fitting layered clothing is the best to trap heat and stay dry,” says Faraz Covelli. A hooded coat or hat will help prevent heat from leaving through your head, while swapping gloves for mittens will keep your fingers cozy.
