High wind, red flag warnings and planned power shutoffs went into effect in parts of Larimer and Weld counties Jan. 16.

As a cold front continues to race over Colorado, wind gusts are kicking up across the state, especially in the northeast.

As of Friday morning, winds were already gusting around 60 mph in parts of Northern Colorado ahead of a blustery end to the work week.

A Red Flag Warning for critical high fire danger is in place for Friday across a large area of eastern Colorado including the Denver metro area. The warning runs from 9am through 6 pm on Friday.
